"Hellas - Footprints in Time" - Works by Nikos Sofialakis on display in Washington
February - December 2012
The Greek communities of Washington and the American public will have the opportunity to view the works of Nikos Sofialakis, on display at the Hellenic-American Cultural Center and Museum in Washington (state) in an exhibition entitled "Hellas - Footprints in Time". The exhibition, which will run for all of 2012 (February to December), presents works from the private collection of collector and long-time friend of the artist, Helen Pappas-Suarez, and will feature select pieces of microsculpture art by Nikos Sofialakis.

Nikos Sofialakis [1914 - 2002]: The Sculptor of Classical Realism, Exhibition in Syros
September 5 - 15 2012
A special exhibition entitled "Nikos Sofialakis [1914-2002] Sculptor of Classical Realism" will feature select works by the famous sculptor, and will be open the public from September 5 - 15 2012, hosted at the Emmanuel Roidis Hall at the Cultural Center of Hermoupolis Syros.
This unique exhibition is under the auspices of the Syros Organization for Culture and Athletics (OPAS), and has been included in the offical guide of events for the 2012 SYROS - CULTURE FESTIVAL. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, September 5th to Saturday September 19th, and is open to the public between 11:00- 13:00 & 18:00- 21:00.

The Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship Award for 2011

The Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship Award for 2011 has been awarded to the talented Rachel Sim. Rachel's need for more spiritual foundations in art led her to continue her art studies in the Liturgical Arts Program at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts. Rachel has long felt a calling to iconography, and in the midst of a demanding job at the Victoria and Albert Museum has persisted in developing her icon painting through the Diploma. Her work often displays energy and boldness as well as sensitivity. A gifted student, the Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship has enabled her to continue her important studies and build on her native artistic gifts.

The Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship Award for 2010

The first Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship Award has been awarded to the talented Iulia Clow. Iulia found the meaning of art in Iconography, and has found in it a union of her artistic love and a deep devotion to Christ. She comes from a graphic arts background, and through the Diploma has developed her knowledge of figurative painting in the Orthodox iconographic tradition. She wants to work professionally as an iconographer and the Diploma has been an invaluable means of developing her knowledge of the icon tradition. Its first recipient, the Nikos Sofialakis Scholarship was a vital part of her being able to continue her studies.

Τhe Nikos Sofialakis Center of Neoclassical Sculpture is pleased to announce its participation in this year's definitive cultural guide, SMART ART IN GREECE II, a luxurious publication featuring the whole of Greek cultural heritage from antiquity to the present. The publication features 38 art spaces and cultural venues, with 192 images and a useful guide for 1225 galleries, art spaces, museums cultural venues and organizations, replete with contact information.

"Horses and Riders" Sculpture Exhibition at the B&M Theocharakis Foundation

The President of the Nikos Sofialakis Center of Neoclassical Sculpture, Vice-Admiral Georgios P. Chraniotis HN (ret), attended the grand opening of the sculpture exhibition by artist Giannis Parmakelis, entitled "Horses and Riders" at the B&M Theocharakis Foundation for the Arts and Music. The exhibition, which was inaugurated by the Minister of Education, Religion, Culture and Sports, Mr. Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos, on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, will run until November 4, 2012. The exhibition is curated by Mr. Takis Mavrotas.
